Nguyễn là người thuê phòng trong căn nhà của gia đình nạn nhân. Gia đình nạn nhân đã gắn máy ảnh trong phòng nạn nhân từ tháng 3-2011 vì họ tin rằng ông đã đánh đập, hành hạ và ngược đãi người đàn bà 45 tuổi, không nói được vì bệnh khờ (Down syndrome).

Qua băng hình, cho thấy trong khoảng ngày 31-3-2011 cho tới ngày 9-4-2011, Nguyễn đã bước vào phòng nạn nhân, nhảy lên giường phụ nữ này, đá vào đầu và ngực nạn nhân, rồi sau đó phóng chạy ra ngoài.

Man, 45, Sentenced Two Years For Beating Disabled Roommate

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A Garden Grove man was sentenced to two years in prison Friday for beating his disabled roommate, who can’t verbally communicate.

Richard Vu Nguyen, 45, was convicted in June of a felony count of dependent adult abuse for the attack involving his female roommate, who has Down syndrome.

Last March, the victim’s family set up a surveillance camera in the woman’s bedroom because they believed she was being abused.

According to prosecutors, Nguyen went into his roommate’s room and kicked her in the head and chest.

Man kicked woman with Down syndrome in the head, prosecutors say

A man who was allegedly caught on video kicking his housemate, a woman with Down syndrome, in the head is expected to appear in court Wednesday after being charged with one felony count of dependent adult abuse.

Prosecutors say that in at least one incident, Richard Vu Nguyen, 45, of Garden Grove entered the room of the 45-year-old woman, jumped onto her bed, kicked her in the head and upper torso, and fled.

The act was caught on video after the victim’s family, suspecting abuse, installed a surveillance camera in the woman’s room last year. The beating was caught on video sometime between March and April 2011, prosecutors said.

Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney's office, said the victim lives with other relatives in a home owned by a family member. She said Nguyen was living in the home because his girlfriend is related to the victim. The motive for the attacks was not immediately clear, Emami said.

Nguyen faces a maximum sentence of four years in state prison if convicted.
